Norway - Legislation on the possession and carrying of knives

General Status:

Norwegian law strictly prohibits carrying knives in public spaces without a legitimate reason.

Restrictions:

Carrying any knife in public (streets, vehicles) is prohibited unless justified (professional use, outdoor activities).

Certain knives (automatic, butterfly, gravity knives) are banned from ownership and possession.

Warning:

Violating knife regulations may result in confiscation, heavy fines, or imprisonment of up to 6 months. Self-defense is not accepted as a lawful excuse.
