Nettoyer une poêle en acier

You've just bought an iron frying pan, you've done the basting, but you're wondering how to maintain it? We've done the research for you, and have put together a wealth of advice to help you preserve your iron cookware over the long term!

How do I clean a steel frying pan?

Once you've finished using your iron frying pan or wok, it's time to clean it. It's important to follow these instructions to avoid damaging your utensil:

- Never put your iron utensil in the dishwasher, as this may cause it to rust.

- Never use washing-up liquid or cleaning products, as they are acidic and may attack the iron.

So how do you clean iron utensils?

1. Allow the utensilto cool completely. If you run it under hot or cold water immediately after cooking, you risk creating a thermal shock.

2. Using a dishbrush, scrub the cooled steel frying pan or sauté pan under hot, unprotected water. The food will detach from the bottom. *

3. Dry your iron cookwarethoroughly with a soft, clean cloth to remove all traces of moisture.

4. Apply a little olive oil to the utensil with a paper towel to protect it. This will prevent any risk of rust.

5. Store the utensil in a dry place.

* You can leave the utensil to soak for a few minutes, but don't overdo it to prevent rust.

What to do if food sticks?

If even after soaking your frying pan some residues remain stuck to it, there's a simple way to remove them: purification.

1) Dry the iron utensilthoroughly and heat over low heat.

2. Pour half a glass of coarse salt into the pan.

3. Rub the salt with paper towel over the attached food to loosen it. You'll be done when the salt no longer resists rubbing into the utensil.

Salt is a gentle abrasive that effectively loosens food. Be careful, however, not to burn yourself on contact with the hot pan or wok.

How do I clean a rusty iron frying pan?

Even if you follow all the above instructions, traces of oxidation may still appear. If you don't use the utensil for a long time, put it in the dishwasher or store it in a damp place, rust can occur. Here are a few ways to remove it:

The potato technique

Cut a potato into slices and dip them in baking soda. Once thoroughly soaked, rub the potato slices over the rust marks.

The salt technique

Salt is definitely your best ally when it comes to maintaining your De Buyer or Beka iron frying pan. Pour a thin layer over any rust marks. Take some kraft paper or the brown bag in which you buy your fruit and vegetables, and rub the salt in. If the salt rusts a lot, empty it out and pour in more until the rust has completely disappeared.

For even more effective action, you can add a little lemon juice to the salt. Use about the juice of one lemon for every 3 tablespoons of salt. Apply the paste with a cloth.

That's it! You've got all you need to perfectly maintain your iron cookware!
