The corkscrew: an indispensable table tool
The corkscrew has been in vogue for decades. Its gleaming steel and pigtail shape represent a surprising simplicity:opening bottles! As simple and effective as this, you won't find. Often, it's the occasional drinker who's left without one when it comes to consuming the famous liquid. It's out of the question for them to pop the champagne for fear of cutting themselves. And yet, you'd have plenty to do with our kitchen knives! The corkscrew is therefore the best alternative for removing that rascal cork from the neck. Unfortunately, corkscrews are not widely used, and are even feared by many. This can lead to problems such as chunks in the bottle, or laborious manoeuvring. All the more reason to buy a quality one!
The history of the corkscrew
The love affair between man and drink has been going on for centuries! Dionysus, the god of wine, could confirm this. The first evidence of its use dates back to the 15th century. Officially, however, it was in the course of the 17th century that the tool made its appearance. Why was this? Thanks to the English! They were the world's biggest consumers of wine . Realizing that the crimson beverage stood the test of time better in glass bottles, and that it was difficult to remove the cork due to oxygen pressure, they decided to invent the corkscrew. Initially, it was inspired by the tools used to clean rifles. The gunsmiths of the day built it. Samuel Henshall was the first to patent the corkscrew, in 1795!
