United Kingdom - Legislation on the possession and carrying of knives

General Status:

UK law strictly prohibits carrying knives in public without a good reason.

Restrictions:

Permitted without lawful excuse:

- Folding knives with non-locking blades ≤3 inches (7.62 cm).

Prohibited for possession:

Switchblades, gravity knives, butterfly knives, zombie knives, disguised knives.

Warning:

Offences are punishable by up to 4 years imprisonment. The bearer must immediately justify carrying a knife if questioned by authorities.
