Netherlands - Legislation on the possession and carrying of knives

General Status:

The Netherlands enforces strict regulations under the Weapons and Ammunition Act (Wet Wapens en Munitie).

Restrictions:

Prohibited for possession:

- Stilettos, switchblades, butterfly knives, gravity knives, throwing knives, push daggers, disguised knives, zombie knives.

Municipalities may establish "weapon-free zones" where all knives are prohibited.

Warning:

Possession or carrying of prohibited knives is a criminal offence. Even legal knives must not be brandished or carried irresponsibly.
