Switzerland - Legislation on the possession and carrying of knives

General Status:

Swiss law strictly regulates certain types of knives under the Weapons Act.

Restrictions:

Prohibited without authorization:

- One-handed opening knives with locking blades >5 cm and total length >12 cm.

- Butterfly knives, throwing knives, push daggers.

Warning:

Carrying prohibited knives without a license is a criminal offence. Even lawful knives must not be carried without necessity.
