What sets Fallkniven knives apart? The simple, no-frills design is efficient and reliable. The clean lines reflect a philosophy that values Swedish skill and experience, where the tool is important, but without neglecting the wielder. The Jarl knife embodies this philosophy.
The name Jarl is similar to that of a count or duke, and was used to designate the most powerful officer in Sweden. This title was considered the "right-hand man" of several Swedish kings during the medieval period, between 1000 and 1300 AD, when Sweden was baptized and became a nation. Although it's an old and unusual name, it still rings strong in people's minds and inspires respect. It also refers to Birger Jarl, considered the founder of Stockholm.
The blade of this Fallkniven SK1 knife is made of a special steel called 3G. This is a blend of vanadium and molybdenum. It's one of the best steels Fallkniven uses. In fact, this material has a hardness of 62HRC. It can be sharpened like a razor, and will keep an excellent edge over time. The blade also features a convex grind, which is exclusive to this brand. This type of serration increases the cutting edge's potential while remaining flexible thanks to the absence of angles.
The handle is made from birch. This fairly light-colored wood is commonly used for tool handles. Its lightness, strength and aesthetics make it a quality choice. What's more, its light, mottled color allows it to develop a harmonious patina over time.
A black leather sheath is supplied with the Fallkniven Jarl SK1 knife. It opens at the base for easy access.
