In 2021, the French Army has chosen the Wildsteer TORK as the survival knife to equip the aircrew of the Aviation Légère de l'Armée de Terre (ALAT). The TORK's name comes from the term "torque". This word refers to the torque generated by a helicopter's main rotor.
Made from brown Tactiprene, the Tork Wildsteer handle features an integral double guard. This ensures total protection for the user. The ergonomic handle provides a comfortable grip for on-the-fly cutting. An interesting feature is the glass breaker at the bottom of the striking knob. This part can be used to break a Plexiglas canopy. Also, a lanyard hole lets you add a wrist strap to the set.
You can also use a flint (supplied with the knife). This is made possible by the sharp edge on the top of the blade. The back of the blade is flat to help you cut wood. The blade's semi-serrated profile is ideal for cutting headphone connectors. This is made possible by the first tooth, and fibrous materials such as cords by the others.
The protective sheath supplied with the knife also has a very demanding specification. It comprises a main body, a flint, a diamond plate and 2 calf straps. The sheath is very compact, making it compatible with all helicopter cockpits without interfering with flight controls.
It is also MOLLE-compatible, so it can be worn on the calf. Its dimensions make it easy to place on a vest, even if its main function is to remain at calf level. A diamond-tipped sharpening plate is housed on the back of the case. Also on the back is a Swedish flint (Light My Fire). This can be used via the notch on the back of the blade. At the bottom of the case is a 55mm paracord firelighter containing nylon fishing line.
As you can see, the package is extremely complete!
