The Au Nain Up steak knife set is out of the ordinary! The Up knife is the winner of the Dessine moi un couteau competition, an initiative that enabled all French people to design an original model of table knife, with the aim of having it subsequently produced by a master cutler.
Mr. Eric Fréour (a specialist in graphic design) won the competition from some fifty entries, proposing a knife design with clean lines and a timeless look. The design was examined by an expert jury made up of members from the gastronomy, cutlery and French film industries. The selection criteria for this competition, whose patrons were Christian Constant and Yves Camdeborde, were aesthetics, ergonomics and the possibility of large-scale production.
This knife was born thanks to the Esprit de Thiers association, which aims to defend and promote the know-how and creativity of Thiers cutlers (Thiers being the knife capital of France).

The knives feature a Z40C13 stainless steel blade, an alloy renowned for its resistance to the test of time and corrosion, with standard use and maintenance. These blades have a smooth cutting edge, enabling them to cut flesh without damaging it.
The handles of the black and ivory models are made of Pastello, an opaque plastic from the acrylic family, appreciated for its resistance to temperature variations. The Harlequin model features a handle made from recycled yoghurt pots, compressed and polished.
Each handle model is comfortable to hold, whether you're right- or left-handed. A long stainless steel bolster links the blade to the handle.
We recommend that you care for your knives by hand: wash them by hand and wipe them with a soft cloth before storing. This way, you'll keep them in their superb, original condition for a long time to come.
