The steel part of the handle, called the clip (or tang), is entirely encased in Thermorun to prevent the knife from freezing hands at very low temperatures. This feature also prevents burns if the knife is exposed to the sun for long periods. The full tang runs right through the handle, allowing the user to strike with the tip without risk of breaking the knife.
