A knife built for action
This pocket knife features a drop-point blade with a smooth edge, ideal for everyday cutting tasks, outdoor activities, and more demanding tasks. Its 154CM steel is an American stainless steel originally developed for jet engines, before being popularized in cutlery by Bob Loveless in the 1970s. It offers good corrosion resistance, excellent strength, and impressive edge retention.
Its satin finish gives it a understated look and minimizes glare. The handle is made of FRN, which stands for Fiber Reinforced Nylon: this glass-fiber-reinforced nylon is lightweight, rigid, and designed to withstand repeated stress. It provides a reliable grip without adding weight to the knife.

A well-designed mechanism
The Buck 791 Range Pro opens easily with one hand thanks tothe thumb stud located on the blade. Simply apply pressure with your thumb on this feature to assist the blade as it rotates, without having to use both hands. This intuitive opening mechanism is particularly handy during outdoor activities, DIY projects, or everyday tasks when your other hand is already occupied.
The thumb stud also provides precise support for the finger during use. The blade opens gradually and in a controlled manner, while the phosphor bronze washers ensure smooth movement. The system is suitable for both right- and left-handed users, provided they adjust their grip and the side they use.
The Crossbar Lock firmly holds the blade open while allowing for ambidextrous use. This system relies on a crossbar located inside the handle, which rests against the heel of the blade to prevent it from closing during use. To fold the knife, simply pull simultaneously on both ends of the mechanism—accessible from either side of the handle—and guide the blade into its closed position. A practical locking mechanism for those who like to keep their hands free and their gear under control.
Usage Tips
Clean the blade after each use with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry it thoroughly. Even though it’s stainless, 154CM steel does not fare well with persistent moisture, salt, or acidic residues. Occasionally apply a drop of suitable oil to the pivot and the locking mechanism. Sharpen the cutting edge to approximately 20° on each side using a suitable sharpening tool.
