This Opinel N°08 folding knife is the ideal companion for all your outdoor activities: hiking, picnics, barbecues, bivouacs... It's also ideal for use around the house for everyday chores.
The 8. 5cm blade is made of modified Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel. This alloy, developed for Opinel, is widely renowned for its satisfying sharpness and ease of maintenance. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40% and a good hardness: the cutting edge is therefore highly satisfactory, without being susceptible to corrosion.
Note that the blade is called Yatagan, thanks to its particular shape inspired by a Turkish saber, with the point raised. It is ground to a curved profile, guaranteeing high-performance resharpening.
The handle is made of oak. This hard material is not chosen at random: thanks to its high tannin content, it is highly resistant to insects and fungi. Produced in France, this wood has a yellow-brown appearance, with straight, even grain. Its varnish finish protects it from moisture and dirt.
This Opinel comes with a Virobloc safety ring. Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, it is fitted on all closing knives from N°06 upwards. The Virobloc is made of stainless steel and comprises two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. It allows you to lock the blade in the open position, as well as to lock it in the closed position. This ensures safe use and transport.
Opinel knives have been made in the heart of the French Alps since the 1890s. They draw their strength and simplicity from their mountain roots. Recognized as an iconic folding knife, the Opinel is above all a mythical, popular and indispensable object, handed down from generation to generation.
