The blade is made of carbon steel. This alloy contains unalloyed steel with a high carbon content, which, after heat treatment, produces the excellent hardness that guarantees perfect edge retention and high resistance to wear.
It is important to note that carbon steel has a low resistance to corrosion by humidity. We do not recommend leaving your knife in a damp environment, particularly in a dishwasher. Whenever possible, the blade should be wiped with a greasy cloth after use, and greased frequently.
The blade is called Yatagan thanks to its particular shape, inspired by a Turkish saber, with a raised tip. It is ground to a curved profile, guaranteeing easy, high-performance resharpening.
The ferrule is an essential part of Opinel knives: it forms the junction between the blade and the handle, giving the whole piece added strength. This rotating ferrule locks the blade when folded or unfolded. So you can use and transport your knives in complete safety.
The handle is made of beech, the most common wood used for Opinel knife handles. This wood comes from French farms, and is characterized by its hardness and strength. It is homogeneous in appearance, with a light color ranging from yellow to pink. It can be recognized by the presence of numerous small dark lines. The handle is varnished to protect it from moisture and dirt.
The knives are delivered in an elegant wooden box with lid.
