The story of the Native range first began in 1997, when Spyderco designed the Native series to meet the needs of fans who demanded a folding knife combining performance, elegance and ergonomics. For this version of the Native 5, Spyderco has chosen Maxamet steel for the blade. Maxamet is a steel produced using advanced technology from the Carpenter steel mill. Its cutting capacity is far superior to that of all powder-metallurgy steels.
Surprised by its Maxamet steel blade? Wait until you see the features of its handle. In fact, its handle is made from lightweight, extremely hard glass-fiber reinforced nylon. What's more, this FRN is coated with anti-slip technology to give you a finely placed grip in the palm of your hand.
Inside this FRN handle, a perfectly secure rear lock is present to ensure blade locking in the open position. This feature is designed for the safety of knife users.
As always, Spyderco imbues a hole in the back of the blade to allow one-handed opening. This opening system is calledThumbhole or SpyderHole.
Native 5 Maxamet is easy to carry, thanks to a pocket clip screwed to the back of the handle for attachment to your belt.
