The Buck 790 Mini Range Elite folding knife combines a CPM MagnaCut blade, an aluminum handle, and modern mechanics to handle all your everyday tasks!
This pocket folding knife slips easily into a pocket thanks to its compact size and featherweight 65g.
A compact size perfect for EDC
With its 6.5 cm drop-point blade, this small pocket knife offers a versatile design for everyday tasks: cutting a piece of cord, opening packaging, preparing a snack, or cutting fishing line. Its smooth cutting edge and satin finish provide a sleek look while making maintenance a breeze.
The blade is made of CPM MagnaCut steel, a stainless steel grade that offers excellent corrosion resistance, good edge retention, and impressive durability for outdoor use. Sharpening it is straightforward with the right tools, without turning the maintenance session into a metallurgy workshop.
The black aluminum handle measures 9.3 cm when closed. This material keeps the weight low while providing a sturdy and comfortable grip. Its compact design naturally follows the hand’s movements, while its closed dimensions make it easy to carry around daily. When open, the knife measures 15.8 cm.
Key Features to Note
-
- CPM Magnacut: excellent balance between sharpness, durability, and corrosion resistance
- Mini size: only 65 g, for discreet everyday carry
- Drop-point blade: versatile shape for outdoor tasks
- Aluminum handle: rigidity, lightness, and comfortable handling
-
- One-handed opening: practical thumb stud and smooth operation
- Reversible tip-up clip: carries in a right- or left-hand pocket
- Ambidextrous use: controls and lock designed for both right- and left-handed users
Intuitive and controlled opening
The thumb stud allows you to deploy the blade with just one hand. By pressing down on the thumb stud, the thumb guides the blade’s rotation until it is fully open. This system is particularly useful while hiking, doing DIY projects, or in everyday use.
The shape of the thumb stud also contributes to greater precision. Thanks to the phosphor bronze washers, the blade moves smoothly and progressively. The knife can be used with either the right or left hand.
The Crossbar Lock Mechanism
The Crossbar Lock relies on a locking bar integrated into the handle. When open, this bar holds the heel of the blade in place and prevents it from closing under pressure. To release the blade, you must activate both side levers simultaneously, then guide it until it closes.
A Blade Worth Noting
After use, wipe the blade with a soft cloth to remove food residue, moisture, or marks left by the materials being cut. Although the CPM Magnacut offers excellent corrosion resistance, regular cleaning is still recommended.
Avoid the dishwasher and abrasive cleaners. Occasionally apply a small drop of suitable oil to the pivot and mechanism if the blade no longer opens smoothly. When sharpening, maintain an angle of approximately 20° on each side and use a whetstone or a sharpening system designed for pocket knives.
Buck, a brand with a sharp edge
Founded in 1902 by Hoyt Buck, this American brand was built around steel craftsmanship and knives designed to accompany users in the field. Buck is particularly known for its iconic 110 Folding Hunter knife, launched in 1964. Today, the company continues this tradition by incorporating modern materials such as CPM Magnacut and contemporary locking mechanisms.
