Traditionally, makisu is made from bamboo with cotton threads, and therefore requires the addition of cling film to be hygienic. To design its roll, Hasegawa chose to use synthetic materials such as polypropylene to avoid the need for additional cling film.

Polypropylene is a material with antibacterial properties that are indispensable in the kitchen. What' s more, water doesn't soak in, so there's no risk of mildew!
