The blade
The knife's 12cm blade is made of Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel, a tough modified steel for Opinel that contains around 0.4 carbon to increase the blade's hardness. As a result, the blade is easy to maintain and the edge is finer and sharper.
Sharpening is done by hand at an angle of around 40°. This ensures that the edge does not deteriorate too quickly, while remaining extremely effective.
The knife's blade has the typical Opinel Yatagan shape. Inspired by a Turkish saber, it has a raised tip and is ground to an exclusive convex profile, giving the edge great strength and resharpening performance.
The ferrule
On an Opinel knife, the ferrule is a very important element: in addition to serving as the junction between the handle and the blade, its Virobloc® system locks the blade in the desired position. When open, the blade won't close on your fingers, and when closed, the knife can be safely stored in your backpack.
The handle
The handle of the Opinel Explore Tire-Tique is made of glass-fiber-reinforced polymer. It is highly resistant to shock, water and extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to +80°C. It features a soft-grip part that gives you all the comfort you need when using your knife.
Its orange color makes it easy to find in your bag. Handy if you need it fast! The brand logo is engraved on the blade, adding a traditional touch to your knife.
