Thanks to their many years of accumulated know-how,Opinel 's Savoyard creators can now offer you ultra-practical, ergonomic knives that still retain the rustic look we love so much.
The "Origines" range offers you Opinel knives revisited on the basis of the n°08 of the traditional series, the most popular knife in the range. By using the same dimensions as this legendary knife, the Savoyard cutlers have decided to create modern pocket knives that are even more practical!
This knife is the epitome of this: the natural-tinted opinel n°08 has all the features an adventurer would expect from a pocket knife:
The blade
The blade is made of Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel, known for its strength and ease of maintenance. This steel has a high carbon content (approx. 0.4%), which further enhances its strength. As a result, the blade's edge is all the finer and sharper. It then undergoes a special 2-stage heat treatment:
- tempering: the blade is heated to over 800°C and then rapidly cooled down.
- the tempering operation: again heated, the blade is then cooled very slowly.
Then comes the sharpening: an Opinel is sharpened at an angle of around 40° to ensure that the edge does not deteriorate too quickly, but is still very effective. This operation is carried out by hand.
The blade is also called Yatagan, thanks to its particular shape inspired by a Turkish saber, with the point raised. It is ground to a curved profile, guaranteeing high-performance resharpening.
The ferrule
The ferrule is a very important element: it forms the junction between the blade and the handle, making the whole piece even more solid.
The ferrule is rotatable, meaning that a new steel ring has been added to the one holding the handle and blade together. This rotating ferrule locks the blade when folded or unfolded. So you can use your knives in complete safety.
The handle
The handle is made of beech wood in a warm, authentic natural color. Its slight grain adds a touch of rusticity.
What's more, the small leather cord at the end of the handle allows you to carry or hang the Opinel easily and efficiently on any support (key ring, belt, etc.).
Whether you're an adventure companion (hiking, hunting, camping...) or a table companion, this authentic Opinel will be an indispensable tool for all your outings! It will be appreciated by adventurers!
