Opinel's characteristic handle is here in Ebony, arare deep-colored wood. Dense and solid, ebony has long been recognized in marquetry and cabinetmaking for its beauty and durability. Carved from a single piece of solid wood in Opinel's workshops in Chambéry, it is then carefully buffed with wax, i.e. finely polished to give it a very pleasant feel. With its shape unchanged for over a century, the handle fits perfectly in the palm of the hand, for a secure, comfortable grip.

The 8.5 cm blade is made of Sandvik 12C27stainless steel. Thanks to a carefully studied balance between carbon concentration and heat treatment, it gives you a blade with excellent hardness while remaining rust-proof. So your cutting edge stays sharp for a long time and requires very little maintenance. Stamped on the blade, the crowned hand hallmark recalls the Savoyard manufacturer's century-long history. The blade is also double-polished, giving it a mirror-like finish for an extra touch of elegance.

Like most Opinels, this N°08 also features a safety ferrule for safer use and transport. By sliding, this stainless steel ring allows you to lock the blade either in the open position during use to prevent accidental folding of the knife, or in the closed position for transport.
