While the shape of the handle has remained unchanged since 1897, here it is made from padouk, a wood from tropical and equatorial Africa. Renowned for its solidity, this exceptional wood adorns this Opinel in shades of red. The color varies according to the piece of wood from which the handle is taken, making each knife unique. Carved from a single piece of solid wood in the Opinel workshops in Chambery, the handle fits perfectly in the palm of the hand, for a secure, comfortable grip.
The 8.5 cm blade is made of Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel. This steel is the fruit of a delicate balance of carbon and heat treatment, with the aim of obtaining a blade of excellent hardness yet insensitive to rust. So your edge stays sharp for a long time and requires very little maintenance. For this luxury edition, the blade also receives a double polish to give it a mirror-like appearance. Finally, the crowned hand hallmark, the brand's symbol since 1909, is stamped on the blade.
Like most Opinel knives, this N°08 also features a safety ferrule for safer use and transport. By sliding, this stainless steel ring allows you to lock the blade either in the open position during use to prevent accidental folding of the knife, or in the closed position for transport.
