It's this practicality that has built the brand's success for over a century. With this "Chaperon" edition, the Savoyard cutler takes an original look at this timeless design.
Ebony, rosewood, violet wood, bocote, cocobolo, rosewood, zebrali, boxwood, amaranth... for each of these knives, 4 exceptional species are carefully selected, then assembled in Opinel' s Savoy workshops. Thanks to a unique marquetry process perfected by art cabinetmaker Bruno Chaperon, these precious woods form a solid whole, from which the handle is then carefully removed.
The wood species change according to the creativity of the knife's creator. Each handle is therefore of a different composition, varying contrasts and patterns, for a truly unique knife. The photos above show just some of the possible handle variations.
The handle is then wax buffed, i.e. polished by hand with cotton felt. This treatment gives it a very pleasant feel, as well as excellent resistance to moisture and dirt. With its shape unchanged for over a century, it fits perfectly in the palm of the hand, for a secure, comfortable grip.
The 8.5cm blade is made of Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel. Thanks to a studied balance between carbon concentration and heat treatment, it offers you a blade of excellent hardness. So your edge stays sharp for a long time and requires very little maintenance.
Stamped on the blade, the crowned hand hallmark recalls the Savoyard manufacturer's century-long history. The blade is also double-polished, giving it a mirror-like finish for an extra touch of elegance.
The safety ferrule, another emblematic Opinel feature, is also featured on this N°08. This ring slides in front of the blade to lock it in the closed or open position, ensuring optimum safety during transport and use. There's no risk of the blade opening in a pocket, or accidentally closing on your hand.
Last but not least, this exceptional folding knife is presented in a sober, authentic kraft box in the purest Opinel tradition, both practical and neat. This set makes the ideal gift for collectors and lovers of fine objects alike.
