Alessi cookware is a must-have for design enthusiasts. For over a hundred years, the company has been constantly innovating to bring you original, striking everyday objects.
This spice mill is part of the 100 Values Collection, a special series designed to celebrate the brand's 100th anniversary. There are 12 100 Values Collection items, one for each month of the year: they are both surprising and iconic.
The Alessi Twergi spice mill is a re-edition of the models created by Ettore Sottsass in the late 80s. These emblematic models are adapted here with new chromatic combinations, for even greater originality.
With the Twergi collection, he wanted to restore the importance of the artisanal tradition of woodturning (a specialty in the region where the company is based). Many designers, including Sottsass, remained fascinated by this simple yet highly precise craft, and wanted to incorporate it into their own creations.
To learn a little more about this designer, we can say that Sottsass was one of the most influential designers of the second half of the 20th century, recognized as a great innovator and architect. His creations can be found in major art museums, and he won numerous awards over the years. He has even taken up drawing and photography, for variety's sake. Passionate about ceramics and travel, his works are inspired by these two trends (as can be seen, for example, in the shape of this mill, which resembles a "totem" that you would place on your table).
This mill is made from FSC-certified beechwood (i.e. from forests managed in an eco-responsible way). Beech is a hard-wearing wood, often found in the kitchen. It ages well, despite use.
Some of this wood has been turned by hand, using traditional methods. This gives it its unique appearance, all the more so as Ettore Sottsass's superimposition of shapes gives it a highly original look, making it resemble a statue that you would place on your dining table, worktop...
The cylindrical shape also makes it easy and pleasant to hold. Use is instinctive.
We offer several colors to liven up your decor: one mill is designed in a shade of red, yellow and black, and the other mixes black, yellow and white. It's up to you to choose the one that suits you best, and why not mix the two!
This mill is suitable for spices, salt or pepper, so use it as you wish.
