Ettore Sottsass was one of the most influential designers of the second half of the 20th century. A great innovator and architect, Sottsass's work is exhibited in the world's leading art museums. In order to diversify, the designer tried his hand at new fields such as photography and drawing. An avid traveler and ceramist, Ettore Sottsass draws on these influences for his projects. The designer's talent and work have won him numerous awards over the course of his career, including the famous Compasso d'Oro in 1989 for the Nuovo Milano collection.
Nuovo Milano salad servers were designed by Sottsass in collaboration with Italian chef Alberto Gozzi. The aim of their collaboration was to create serving utensils that were both stylish and ergonomic. The cutlery is made entirely of 18/10 stainless steel, an alloy renowned for its strength and excellent resistance to corrosion.
The cutlery has a smooth design, as Sottsass wanted the Nuovo Milano collection to echo seawater-polished pebbles. The spoons are quite flat. One looks like a spatula and the other has a zigzag end. In addition to its design, this concept ensures a perfect grip on salad leaves without damaging them.
