Douk-Douk folding knives were created in 1929 by Gaspard Cognet. The French designer chose this emblem while leafing through an illustrated dictionary. The Douk-Douk spirit is part of Melanesian culture, and is represented on the handle of this knife. This little pocket knife was a runaway success in Algeria, becoming the national pocket knife in 1939, when Algeria was a French province. The knife's low price combined with its sturdiness and quality won over many users!

Today, authentic Douk-Douk knives are made in the pure tradition of Thiers cutlery by the Cognet factory. The manufacturing process has remained unchanged for 80 years, with every step carried out by hand. It takes no less than 38 steps to create a Douk-Douk closing knife!

The blade of this Douk-Douk 815PM knife is made of XC75 carbon steel. It has been forged from a single piece of steel, giving it added strength. The blade is heat-treated to a hardness of between 50 and 53HRC. The knife's grind is obtained using a water grinding wheel. The cutting performance of a carbon knife is excellent, and the blade can be sharpened quickly and easily with a Sharpening steel or whetstone. A distinctive arabesque marking is applied to the blade.

Important: carbon blades are more sensitive to corrosion. It should therefore be washed by hand and wiped dry immediately. A patina may form on the blade over time. This is a normal process caused by contact with ambient air, which can vary in humidity, and by the acidity of food, etc. You can coat the blade with mineral oil from time to time to protect it from corrosion.

The 9cm handle is made of folded, cold-rolled steel. Weapon bronze treatment is the same process used to treat the barrels of firearms. The unfinished look adds authenticity. This handle features the Douk-Douk engraving.

The whole is joined by steel rivets. At the end of the handle, a bezel allows you to insert a small cord for a more secure grip. Douk-Douk knives do not have a forced lock: the blade locks naturally while the knife is in use, but the position is not locked.
