The inventor of the Douk-Douk folding knife is Gaspard Cognet. The idea came to him in 1929. After leafing through an illustrated dictionary, he had the idea of choosing the Douk-Douk as his emblem. A god of Melanesian culture, his image is embossed on the handle of this knife, and silk-screened on the case. This pocket knife was a runaway success in Algeria, so much so that in 1939 it became the national pocket knife. At the time, the country was still a French province.
Douk-Douk knives are still produced by Cognet in the pure tradition of Thiers cutlery. The various stages are almost all carried out by hand, from the first to the 38th phase.
The Géant model of the traditional Douk-Douk is the big brother of the 11cm Douk-Douk also available on our site. It is more suited to people with large hands or a preference for handles and blades of this size.
The blade of this Douk-Douk 815 folding knife is made of XC75 steel and measures 12cm. It has been forged from a single piece of steel, a guarantee of quality and strength. Finally, the blade's grind is worked by a craftsman using a water-grindstone. The main advantages of a carbon blade are its cutting performance and ease of sharpening. You'll be able to regain the edge quickly with a sharpening Sharpening steel or stone. The blade is embossed with arabesque designs, a distinctive feature of the brand.
Important: carbon blades tend to oxidize quickly when exposed to corrosion. Care should be taken to clean it by hand and wipe it with a cloth after use. A patina may form on the blade over time, which is normal in contact with ambient air or the acidity of food. You can coat the blade with mineral oil from time to time to protect it.
The 14cm handle is made of metal, specifically cold-rolled folded steel. Weapon bronze treatment is a process also used to treat the barrels of firearms. This raw appearance is what gives this knife its charm. The handle is stamped with the Douk-Douk spirit.
At the end of the handle, a clamp allows you to add a lanyard for added safety. Douk-Douk knives do not have a forced lock: the blade simply locks into place against the handle.
This giant model is delivered in its wooden pencil box, an attractive case screen-printed with the brand's logo. The perfect gift for a special occasion!
This Douk-Douk 815 Géant knife will be the perfect companion for fishermen, hunters, hikers or any knife enthusiast!
