The creator of Douk-Douk folding knives, Gaspard Cognet , invented this traditional knife in 1929. He had the idea of using the Douk-Douk as his emblem after leafing through an illustrated dictionary. The Douk-Douk is a god that is part of Melanesian culture, and its representation is engraved on the handle of this knife. This pocket knife was so successful in Algeria that it became the national pocket knife in 1939, when the country was still a French province. Today, users are still won over by the knife's low price, sturdiness and quality!
Douk-Douk knives are still made by Cognet in the pure tradition of Thiers cutlery. The various stages are carried out by hand. In all, 38 steps are required to create a Douk-Douk closing knife!
The blade of this Douk-Douk 815GM folding knife is made of XC75 carbon steel. It has been forged from a block of steel, increasing its strength. The blade is heat-treated to a hardness of 50/53HRC. The edge of the knife is ground using a water-grinding wheel. The advantages of a carbon knife are cutting quality and ease of sharpening. A simple stroke with a Sharpening steel or whetstone helps to restore the cutting edge quickly. The blade is marked with arabesque motifs, a distinctive feature of the brand.
Important: carbon blades tend to oxidize when exposed to corrosion. It should therefore be cleaned by hand and wiped with a cloth after use. A patina may form on the blade over time, which is normal in contact with ambient air or the acidity of food. You can coat the blade with mineral oil from time to time to further protect it from oxidation.
The 11cm handle is made of black metal, more precisely cold-rolled folded steel. Weapon bronze treatment is a process also used to treat the barrels of firearms. This raw look is pleasant, it's the charm of the authentic. This handle is engraved with the Douk-Douk spirit.
Steel rivets hold it together. At the end of the handle, a bail allows you to insert a cord for a more secure grip. Douk-Douk knives are not equipped with a locking mechanism: the blade locks naturally while the knife is in use, but the position is not locked.
This Douk-Douk 815GM knife will be the perfect ally for the adventurer, hiker, camper or any enthusiast of traditional locking knives! It's slim, unobtrusive, solid and lightweight - essential qualities for any activity!
