Gaspard Cognet, inventor of the Douk-Douk folding knife, created this traditional knife in 1929. He decided to choose the Douk-Douk as his emblem after leafing through an illustrated dictionary. The Douk-Douk is a god of Melanesian culture, and his image is engraved on the handle of every knife. The Douk-Douk became the national pocket knife in Algeria in 1939, when the country was still a French province. Today, the Douk-Douk is still renowned for its sturdiness, the quality of its blade and its attractive price!
Cognet's Douk-Douk knives are still made in the pure tradition of Thiers cutlery. The various stages are almost entirely manual. In all, 38 steps are required to make a Douk-Douk folding knife!
The blade of this Douk-Douk 815/440 folding knife is made of Sandvik stainless steel. The blade's strength is enhanced by the forging process. It is then heat-treated to a hardness of 58/59HRC, and the knife's grind is worked with a water-grindstone. Stainless steel has the advantage of being highly resistant to corrosion and, unlike carbon steel, requires very little maintenance. The cutting edge is also easy to maintain with a simple sharpening gun. The arabesques on the blade are a distinctive feature of the brand.
The 11cm handle is made of chromed metal (chrome on nickel) with a shiny finish. The Douk-Douk spirit is engraved on it, with the words "Modèle déposé" ("Registered design").
Steel rivets join the blade to the handle. At the end of the handle, a bezel allows you to insert a small cord to secure your grip. Douk-Douk knives are not equipped with a locking notch: the blade locks naturally while the knife is in use, coming up against the handle, but the position is never locked.
The Douk-Douk 61815 is a sturdy knife that requires no special maintenance. It will delight fans of traditional folding knives, hikers and DIY enthusiasts alike!
