The Capuchadou model is one of the ancestors of the Laguiole knife. In the past, it was considered the typical knife used by shepherds in Aubrac. They used it mainly to prepare meals and look after their animals... The knife presented here is a reinterpretation of this exceptional model, by FONTENILLE PATAUD GILLES. It is entirely handcrafted.
The company specializes in the design of top-of-the-range traditional knives. FONTENILLE PATAUD GILLES offers a wide range of products, using noble materials such as ebony, ivory and walnut. Their quality and design preserve all the secrets of craftsmanship. This manufacturer will delight customers looking for a handmade Made in France product.
This Capuchadou 12cm folding knife features a Sandvik 12c27 stainless steel blade, which is corrosion-resistant thanks to its 13.6% chromium content. Its carbon content (0.6%) gives this alloy a high hardness of 57HRC on the Rockwell scale. This gives it a quality cutting edge that will last a long time. What's more, you'll avoid repeated sharpening.
Its versatility enables you to cut food, such as meat, as well as outdoor materials like cord. The blade is Clip Point shaped. It has a back cut towards the end, giving it a fine point capable of piercing easily and, above all, squeezing through various narrow places. Suitable for outdoor cutting, this tool can also be used indoors.
Equipped with the Nail Nick opening system, the notch at the end of the blade allows you to open the knife with your fingernail.
The handle is slim, but becomes curved and wider towards the end of the knife, to fit the shape of your hand. The aim is to provide a more comfortable grip. The handle is decorated with juniper wood. It's famous for its sturdiness. But that's not its only asset, as it gives off a pleasant spicy scent that lasts for years. It is completed by a solid stainless steel bolster, which enhances the hand-chiselled back of the handle.
