Opinel has thought of everyone by creating this Opinel N°07 especially for children. It allows them to discover nature and the world, to tinker and also to learn how to make sandwiches! This First Opinel is available in 3 colors: natural, blue or apple green.
The blade
This knife has an 8cm blade in Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel, an alloy containing 14.5% chromium for corrosion resistance and a high carbon content for wire rigidity. As a result, the blade achieves a hardness of 57/58 HRC, making daily maintenance easy.
What's more, the tip of the blade is rounded to ensure your child's safety when using the knife. The practical round blade is ideal for teaching your child how to make toast.
As this knife is a sharp object, we still recommend that you supervise your child when using his Opinel to avoid any risk of injury.
The ferrule
As with all Opinel knives from N°06 upwards, the Premier Opinel features the Virobloc® safety ring. The ferrule rotates and locks in the open or closed position. When open, it prevents the blade from closing on your child's fingers. In the closed position, it prevents the blade from opening should your child reach for the knife in a hurry. This ferrule also makes for a very sturdy knife, as it acts as a junction between the blade and the handle.
The handle
As with most of its folding knives, Opinel has designed the natural color handle from beech wood. Its color varies from yellow to pinkish, and it is recognizable by its many small dark lines.
The blue and apple green models feature a hornbeam handle, a white wood with little grain that is ideal for staining. The water-based stain is applied with a woodstain.
Beech and hornbeam have similar properties. They are robust, easy to work with and both are varnished to resist moisture and dirt.
The handles measure 10cm and are the right size for children's hands. This gives them a good grip.
