The blade

The knife blade measures 8cm and is made of Sandvik 12C27M steel. This steel contains 14.5% chromium, making the blade highly resistant to corrosion.

The shape of the blade is inspired by a Turkish saber, and is called Yatagan: the point is raised and ground to an exclusive curved profile, giving it a highly resistant edge. The blade is hand-sharpened to an angle of around 40°, making it easy to resharpen.

The ferrule

This Opinel's ferrule not only connects the handle and blade, but also ensures safe use. It features the Virobloc® system: the ferrule locks into place. When the blade is open, the ferrule prevents it from closing on your fingers when cutting. In the closed position, the ferrule prevents the blade from opening, for totally secure storage. So if you're looking for your Opinel in your bag, you won't risk cutting yourself.

The handle

The 10cm handle of this folding knife is made of hornbeam wood, a white wood with little grain that is perfect for staining. The wood comes from French farms, is hard and easy to work with. A water-based stain is applied with a woodstain and then covered with a protective varnish. The orange color also makes the knife easy to find in your outdoor gear. The handle has a small leather lace so you can easily hang it from your backpack, for example.
