The blade guard has been specially designed by Kanetsugu to fit the Zuiun santoku knife. Its shape and size are ideally suited to the knife's 18cm blade.

The case is made from magnolia wood. Magnolia is a wood traditionally used in Japan since the Heian period to make sword scabbards. Indeed, magnolia is reputed to be a soft wood that does not scratch knife blades, and is also highly resistant to humidity.

A protective lacquer coating has been applied to the wood to prolong its durability. Providing a black speckled effect, the coating gives the blade guard a very elegant look, reminiscent of the damascus steel of the knife blade. Japanese characters are pyrographed onto the sheath, giving it a traditional look.

For complete protection, a small red lace pin is included with the blade guard. It holds the blade securely in place in the sheath, without allowing it to move. So you can handle the knife without cutting yourself.
