Discover the captivating history of the Nontronnaise brand, France's oldest cutlery maker. It was born in the village of the same name and has been in business since time immemorial. The region boasts a wealth of natural resources for the production of quality knives. These include boxwood and the pure, cold water of the Bandiat river, which is used to temper the blades.
The reputation of Nontron cutlery has spread far beyond its borders over the centuries, with journeymen cutlers from Paris regularly passing through the village to soak up the local know-how.
In 1928, the legendary "Coutellerie Nontronnaise " was born and has since changed owners several times, until SARL Forge de Laguiole bought it in 1992. Today, the artisan cutlery business employs some twenty cutlers and is proudly a Living Heritage Company.
