In truth, what is a forged knife?
Forged knife details :
1. A forged knife is made from a solid steel bar with a round cross-section called a "rond". This bar is heated in the middle to "upset" it, so that the metal forms a ball through compression: this is the outline of the future bolster.
2. This piece ofsteel is then placed in a furnace at a temperature of around 1000° Celsius. Once incandescent, the bar is crushed in a tool into the bolster 's definitive shape, using the force of a sledgehammer capable of delivering between 2 and 4 tonnes per square metre. The forged knife takes shape!
3. At the same time, the rest of the bar is also crushed, forming two flat parts on either side of the bolster. One will be the blade, the other the tang. The result is a solid, one-piece piece, entirely forged, which is then die-cut to the final shape of the blade and tang, called a "forge stamp".
This stamp will then follow the traditional knife-making and finishing stages.

Advantages of a forged knife :
Genuine forged knives have high production costs, but it is this method of manufacture that gives the knives their considerable advantages:
- The hot-forging process improves the molecular structure of the steel, with a more even distribution of its various components.
- Forged from a single piece of metal, the forged knife is more robust (no welds), more resistant to wear and more balanced in the hand.
What's up? Is it ready? Do you finally feel more at ease with knives, especially forged knives? In any case, we know everything by heart :)
