This Opinel knife is an essential piece of hiking and camping equipment. Its small size makes it easy to slip into your backpack pocket or cooler.
The blade
The knife blade measures 8cm and is made of Swedish Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel. With 14.5% chromium and a high carbon content, it is highly resistant to corrosion and abrasion. The carbon gives the blade a very solid 57/58 HRC hardness, synonymous with easy maintenance.
Its Yatagan shape is inspired by a Turkish saber: the point is raised and ground to an exclusive convex profile, making the cutting edge highly resistant. The blade is hand-sharpened at an angle of around 40°, enabling efficient resharpening.
The ferrule
The ferrule has a safety function with its Virobloc® system: it locks in the open or closed position to prevent the blade from moving. So, when it's locked in the open position, the blade can't close on your fingers, and when it's in the closed position, it won't open. Your knife is totally safe to use.
The handle
The knife handle measures 10cm and is made of hornbeam wood from French farms. It's a white wood with little grain, perfect for staining. The water-based stain is applied with a glaze and then coated with a varnish for protection. The handle has a small lace at the end for easy attachment to your backpack, for example.
