Opinel folding knives are ideal for taking with you on hikes or picnics. They are made in the heart of the Alps, in Chambéry, by a family-run business that today employs 130 people.
The blade
The 7cm blade of this Opinel N°06 is made of Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel, a Swedish steel specially modified for Opinel to be highly resistant to corrosion. It contains 14.5% chromium for this purpose. It achieves a hardness of 57/58 HRC, synonymous with easy daily maintenance.
Inspired by a Turkish saber, the Yatagan blade has a raised tip and is ground to an exclusive convex profile, giving it a highly resistant edge. The blade is hand-sharpened to an angle of around 40°, and can be resharpened at any time.
The ferrule
With its Virobloc® system, the ferrule locks the blade in either the open or closed position. When the blade is open, the ferrule blocks it from closing on your fingers. When closed, the ferrule prevents the blade from opening. It's a guarantee of safety when using your Opinel.
The handle
The 9cm handle of this small folding knife is made of hornbeam. This is a white wood from French farms with little grain, ideal for staining. A water-based stain is applied and a varnish covers it, providing protection. A small leather strap completes the handle, allowing you to hang your knife wherever you need it.
