Opinel Outdoor Multifunction knife n°08 8.5cm blade bimaterial handle

The N°08 Outdoor Multifunction pocket knife is designed for sporting activities such as trekking, mountaineering, canyoning and sailing. It will accompany you on all your outdoor outings. It is used by guides at ENSA (Ecole Nationale de Ski et d'Alpinisme) in Chamonix.

The blade

8.5 cm long and 2.5 mm thick, the blade is particularly resistant. It features a 3.5 cm serrated zone, enabling it to cut both natural and synthetic ropes efficiently and without tearing. The blade also features a shackle remover for shackles from 4 to 10 mm.

The blade is made of modified Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel. This alloy, developed for Opinel, is particularly renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. In particular, it is capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness. Sandvik steel has a carbon content of around 0.40%, making it long-lasting and efficient, without being susceptible to corrosion.

The handle

The bimaterial handle is made of glass-fibre reinforced polyamide. This combination of materials guarantees excellent resistance to water, shock and extreme temperatures, from -40°C to +80°C. The soft-touch area of the handle ensures a comfortable grip for total control of the knife.

An emergency whistle is integrated into the heel of the handle, with a power of 110 dB: it has a range of around 300 meters in open areas.

The safety ring

Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted on all Opinel folding knives from N°06 upwards. Made of stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. You can lock the blade in the open position (for safe use), as well as in the closed position (for safe transport).

The handle is available in 4 colors: orange, blue, red and green. It's up to you to choose your favorite color!
