The 1Stone Green ShadowSharpening stone provides precision polishing for sharpening your knives!
This Green Shadow sharpening stone is the work of Nicolas Rollin, stone manufacturer and head of 1Stone. The stone comes from his grandfather's land, where a deposit was established many years ago. The origin of this deposit is still a mystery today, but thanks to this family history, 1Stone can offer you a high-quality sharpening stone.
Important information The whetstone is cut, surfaced and polished by hand by Nicolas Rollin. Being a natural product, its appearance, shape, size, finish and color may differ from one stone to another.
The stone isnatural green slate. Its very high density makes it highly resistant to water, making it one of the most suitable materials for sharpening stones. It is also extremely durable. On average, slate lasts a hundred years!
Relatively hard (4.5/5 on the hardness scale), green slate lends itself particularly well to the pre-polishing and polishing of knife blades, but is also suitable for sharpening blades with very high hardness, above 63 HRC. Its grit is very high, varying from #10000 to #12000 depending on the part of the deposit from which the slate was taken.
This very fine grit is ideal for beginners who wish to obtain a mirror-like finish on their knives. Easy to use, it enables you to obtain such a finish in a few passes.
This slate requires no soaking time before use. Simply moisten it and create a slurry with a Nagura stone from the same deposit to prepare it.
It's the slurry that enables the sharpening process, and you'll simply need to dilute it with a few drops of water as you go along. The clearer the water, the more mirror-like the finish. If you want an even glossier finish, you can use sharpening oil or glycerine.
Note, however, that to switch from water to oil (and vice versa), you'll need to clean the stone with washing-up liquid first. This step is also useful if you wish to remove the label stuck on the stone. It can also be left on to identify the side to be used.
