The King Gold Super Finish 8000 whetstone is a professional whetstone. Its very fine 8000 grit is used at the end of sharpening to give your blades a razor-sharp polish. We recommend that you use this stone for blades with a hardness of at least 60 HRC, as only these can withstand thorough sharpening.
This stone is a traditional water stone, i.e. it requires a pre-soaking phase of around 15 minutes before it can be used. To do this, immerse the stone in a bowl of clear water so that it can soak up the water. During the sharpening process, make sure you keep it regularly soaked, adding water as you go along.
A non-slip support is included with the Japanese stone. Made of synthetic material, it is sturdy and allows perfectly stable use of the stone. It also raises the stone to facilitate sharpening.
The whetstone also comes with a small gold Nagura stone. This is a real asset when using the whetstone, as it fulfils several functions.
When sharpening, pour a little water onto the whetstone and gently rub the Nagura stone over it. In this way, you create a small abrasive paste, the slurry, made up of stone particles. This makes sharpening even easier by increasing its abrasive capacity.
Nagura stone is also used after sharpening to clean the whetstone. It removes all the small steel residues generated by the blade rubbing against the whetstone. Cleaning your stone is made even easier!
