The Forge de Laguiole folding knife in horn is perfect for taking everywhere!
Laguiole knives are pieces of quality and tradition. More than just a name, Laguiole is the expertise of passionate professionals, with 100% French manufacturing. At a time when global competition in cutlery is strong, Forge de Laguiole has chosen to develop and produce its knife ranges in the heart of Aveyron.
Laguiole knives have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, demonstrating that the Aveyron cutlery tradition is firmly rooted in the region. The factory was awarded the"Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (Living Heritage Company) label in 2007, thanks to its highly skilled craftsmen who apply ancestral and regional production techniques to produce unique pieces.
The blade is made of French T12 semi-stainless steel, a hot-rolled steel. Its balance of carbon and chromium makes it a good alternative between a carbon steel and an all-stainless steel. Its fine-grained structure ensures excellent cutting quality, long-lasting sharpness, good resistance to oxidation and, last but not least, easy sharpening and polishing. With a hardness of 54/56 HRC, this steel is easy to sharpen. The blade has a satin finish.
The handle is made of dark horn, a natural material widely used in the design of table and pocket knives. This material is rich in keratin and, once worked, becomes hard and waterproof, increasing its longevity. The handle has been varnished: in addition to adding elegance, it is more resistant to wear. The handle is decorated on the back with guilloche, a chasing of wavy lines and strokes that intertwine on the spring of the folding knife. The bee, the symbol of the Original Forge de Laguiole knife, is featured on the top.
A first bolster links the blade to the handle, and a second bolster is located at the end of the handle. These two steel bolsters at either end complete and protect the knife.
As most of the materials used in the manufacture of Laguiole knives are of natural origin, their appearance (color, veining, grain) is likely to vary from one piece to another.
Important when opening and closing the knife: you must accompany the blade when opening and closing it. Don't let the blade "snap", as it could be damaged by speed.
