This razor-sharp leather is made from vegetable-tanned cowhide. Vegetable tanning is an ancient technique that transforms animal hides into supple, durable leathers. This process ensures that the leather is water-resistant and will not rot. Natural, it contains no chemical substances, unlike chrome tanning, which is the most widespread but polluting.
Tannin is found in tree bark, leaves, seeds, roots and plant sap. The part of the tree chosen for tanning will be the one where the tannins are most concentrated. Depending on the desired color or suppleness, certain plant species are favored, such as oak, chestnut, mimosa or acacia. Our prehistoric ancestors already acted in this way, making vegetable tanning one of the oldest techniques.
