Description

Dressing stone for stone maintenance

The Kai levelling stone is recommended for restoring sharpening stones damaged by use. With time and regular use, whetstones tend to become hollow, compromising their effectiveness. That's where this levelling stone comes in - an essential accessory! It allows you to extend the life of your favorite whetstone.

This dressing stone has a 220 grit, making it very abrasive. As you can see, the surface is very rough.

Its use is similar to that of a standard stone: you need to soak it in water for at least 10 minutes before using it, just like the restoring whetstone.

This levelling stone is ideal for use on your medium- and fine-grain whetstones.

How do I use a flattening stone?

To restore your whetstone, simply place the grooved side of the levelling stone against the stone to be restored, then use back-and-forth movements to grind the surface of the stone. Please note that, due to its high abrasive power, the levelling stone may leave slight marks on your stone (this is a normal process as it is designed to file the surface). To remove these marks, use the smooth side of the levelling stone on your whetstone.

Although it can also be used on a ceramic stone, you'll probably find that its use is less necessary, as ceramic stones are very hard and take longer to hollow out.

Once you've finished using it, simply leave the levelling stone to air-dry (avoid exposing it to direct sunlight). Practical and easy to use, it will become an indispensable part of your maintenance equipment!
