Description

A Kai whetstone for your kitchen knives

The Kai Seki Magoroku sharpening stone is the ideal choice for giving your kitchen knives a remarkable edge! Featuring an extra-fine 8000 grit, it is specially designed to work the cutting edge of your knives with precision and polish it thoroughly. It gives your knives a razor-sharp finish!

This stone is suitable for both Western and Japanese knives, especially those with a high HRC hardness. Indeed, a knife with too soft a hardness will not fully benefit from sharpening with an 8000 grit stone. The frequency of use depends on how often you use your knives. If you wait too long, a more abrasive stone will be needed to restore the razor-sharp edge.

Supplied with a black synthetic base, this stone guarantees safe use. The base can also be used as a container to prevent splashes on your worktop. Finally, you can close the base with its lid to store the stone safely.

How to use a Japanese whetstone

To prepare your whetstone, leave it immersed in water for about fifteen minutes. Next, position the top half of the blade at a 45-degree angle to the stone. Apply light pressure with your index and middle fingers on the end of the blade, then tilt it 10 to 15 degrees (to guide you, make sure there's approximately the thickness of a coin between the back of the blade and the stone).

During the sharpening process, you'll notice the appearance of black filings: this is what sharpens your knives. If the filings start to solidify, add water and continue sharpening the rest of the blade (you can wipe the blade with a soft cloth between each step). To check if the knife is properly sharpened, we recommend you carry out the paper test, which will instantly highlight the effectiveness of the sharpening.
