The blade
The blade of this Opinel knife measures 7cm and is made of Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel. This Swedish steel is specially modified for Opinel to guarantee a highly corrosion-resistant blade. In fact, it contains 14.5% chromium, making the blade anti-corrosive.
The shape of the blade is inspired by a Turkish saber, and is called Yatagan. It has a raised tip and is ground to an exclusive convex profile: this ensures a hard-wearing edge. The blade is hand-sharpened to an angle of around 40° for efficient resharpening.
The ferrule
The ferrule serves as the junction between the blade and the handle of the knife. It also serves as the knife's safety ring. The Virobloc® system locks the blade in either the open or closed position. When the blade is open, the ferrule prevents it from closing on your fingers. In the closed position, the blade cannot open in your backpack.
The handle
This Opinel's 9cm handle is made of hornbeam. This is a resistant white wood from French forests. With little grain, it is the ideal wood for staining. The wood is lasured with a water-based stain, then varnished for protection. A leather strap at the end of the handle lets you hang it from your backpack or belt loop.
