Today, the Opinel family business employs 130 people on a daily basis, all of whom contribute to the brand reputation and the production of its folding knives. Production takes place in Chambéry, France.
The blade
This knife features an 8cm blade made of Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel. This Swedish steel contains 14.5% chromium, making the blade anti-corrosive, and a high carbon content to ensure a hardness of 57/58HRC. Easy daily maintenance.
The shape of the blade is inspired by a Turkish saber and is called Yatagan. It has a raised tip and a curved profile, giving the cutting edge extra strength. The blade is sharpened by hand at an angle of around 40°, guaranteeing high-performance resharpening.
The ferrule
The ferrule is a guarantee of safety for your Opinel. In addition to acting as a junction between the handle and the blade, its Virobloc® system locks the blade in the desired position. When the blade is open, the ferrule prevents it from closing on your fingers during use. When the blade is closed, the ferrule prevents it from opening in your backpack or pocket.
The handle
This Opinel has a 10cm handle made of hornbeam wood from French forests. This hard, easy-to-work white wood is ideal for staining. A water-based stain is applied, which is then covered with a protective varnish. With its prairie-green color, you'll easily find your knife among your belongings. The handle has a small leather lace at the end for easy attachment to your backpack or keys, for example.
