Description

VG10 Rainbow Takeshi Saji Japanese knives: a blend of tradition and aesthetics

Hand-forged by master craftsman Takeshi Saji, VG10 Rainbow knives are truly exceptional pieces! Recognized the world over, his expertise is based on traditional Japanese techniques, which he puts to good use in his unique, high-performance creations. He designs each model with care, respecting the ancestral gesture, to appeal to passionate cooks and the most demanding chefs alike. In the 90s, he was officially designated as a Traditional Master Craftsman by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, a distinction that reflects the excellence of his know-how.

His workshop is located in the cutlery village of Takefu, an emblematic place for blacksmithing in Japan. This artisan community brings together a number of blacksmiths who share techniques, values and traditions. This setting fosters the transmission of knowledge and contributes to keeping alive the art of Japanese cutlery, a blend of innovation and heritage.

A sujihiki knife in damascus steel with a singular style

This sujihiki knife features a damascus steel blade, the result of painstaking work to superimpose several layers of steel around a more rigid core. This type of traditional workmanship ensures excellent blade protection and balance in the hand.

The blade core is made ofVG10 steel, a high-quality alloy developed by Takefu Special Steel. It contains around 1% carbon, enabling a hardness of 60HRC on the Rockwell scale. This provides a long-lasting cutting edge, capable of withstanding the stresses of everyday use while reducing the frequency of sharpening. The result: a clean, precise and consistent cut over time!

The softer outer layers form the characteristic damask pattern. Each blade features a unique wavy pattern, giving your Japanese kitchen knife an authentic charm. This model is distinguished by its slightly coppery color, original and elegant, which gives it a real personality. The blade is also polished to a refined mirror effect, for a visual effect that matches its technical qualities.

A carefully crafted handle for this handmade Japanese knife

The handle is made from rosewood, a dense, naturally moisture-resistant wood. It is adorned with beautiful dark brown nuances that reinforce the warm, noble appearance of the whole.

The wood is complemented by a bolster in red pakka wood. This composite material, made from laminated wood and resin, combines strength and aesthetics. Its natural graining adds a touch of originality, while ensuring durability over time.

The handle is octagonal in shape, an ergonomic format that offers excellent grip, whether you're right- or left-handed! It guarantees comfortable, stable handling, even during prolonged use in the kitchen.

Finally, wood paste is applied to the junction point between blade and handle, ensuring a perfect seal. This detail contributes not only to the hygiene of the whole, but also to the durability of your damascus knife.

As with all quality craft knives, this Takeshi Saji knife can only be cleaned by hand. It's important to use a soft sponge and non-aggressive soap, taking care not to over-moisten the handle. After washing, dry the blade carefully with a clean cloth, then store it in a dry place. The dishwasher is of course to be avoided, as is prolonged soaking.

The knife comes in an elegant wooden box, both protective and refined. Perfect as a gift or to treasure!
