Aluminum is the most abundant metal in the earth's crust, making up 8% of its mass. It comes from a mineral called bauxite, which contains between 40% and 60% aluminum oxide. Easily accessible and economical, it is widely used in cooking for its excellent properties.

Properties of aluminum

Cuisson viande Heat conduction: Aluminum is known to spread heat evenly throughout your cookware. It heats up quickly but does not burn food.

Lightness: your aluminum pan is a lightweight utensil, as the material is almost 3 times lighter than steel. It's easy to handle, even when full.

Sturdiness: the material may be light, but it's no less robust. Aluminum utensils often have a thick bottom, which prevents them from warping or taking a beating.

Healthy: aluminum is non-toxic, so you can be sure of healthy preparations. However, it is rarely used raw. It requires a coating, usually non-stick, to prevent your food from sticking.

All-ring compatibility: an aluminum pot can usually be used on all heat sources, even induction (provided it has a dedicated bottom). Aluminum adapts to all your heat sources. What's more, aluminum can be flash-fried in the oven - how convenient!

Recyclable: aluminum is 100% infinitely recyclable, which means you can recast a pan or stewpot at the end of its life. It can be used to produce new cookware with the same properties. Some brands, like De Buyer, are even committed to recycling their own aluminum frying pans and sauté pans!

For which cooking applications should you choose aluminum?

It's perfect for everyday cooking of delicate foods. You can cook vegetables, fish or eggs in your aluminum frying pan, without fear of damaging them. You can even make pancakes in an aluminum non-stick pan!

Caring for aluminum

Since most aluminum cookware is non-stick, we recommend washing it by hand on a daily basis to avoid damaging the coating. You can occasionally put them in the dishwasher, but be careful not to overdo it.

All in all, aluminum frying pans, saucepans and sauté pans are ideal additions to your cookware set. These utensils offer great versatility and allow you to cook a wide range of foods!
