The Forge de Laguiole folding knife by designer Christian Ghion!
Laguiole knives combine quality, tradition and stunning design. The Laguiole appellation is a true expertise: it is supported by passionate professionals, with guaranteed 100% French manufacturing. At a time when global competition in cutlery is fierce, the Forge de Laguiole company has chosen to develop and produce its knife ranges in the heart of Aveyron.
Forge de Laguiole knives are synonymous with a UNESCO-recognized heritage, and Aveyron's cutlery-making tradition is firmly rooted in the region. The "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (Living Heritage Company) label was awarded to the factory in 2007, as it includes skilled craftsmen who apply ancestral and regional production techniques to produce unique objects.
The blade is made of French T12 semi-stainless steel: a hot-rolled steel that offers an alternative between carbon steel and all-stainless steel, thanks to its balance of carbon and chromium. With its fine-grained structure, it guarantees excellent cutting quality, a long-lasting cutting edge, good resistance to oxidation and easy sharpening and polishing. The steel is easy to sharpen thanks to an HRC hardness of 54/56 on the Rockwell scale. The blade is satin-finished for a highly appreciated finish.
The handle is raw, i.e. there is no material covering the plates. This "Flat" model is the brainchild of designer Christian Ghion, who wanted to remove the decorative aspect of the handle to create an authentic knife. It's pleasant to hold, with a knife that's soft to the touch, light and almost flat.
The back of the handle features guilloche, a goldsmith's work of wavy lines and strokes that intertwine on the spring of the folding knife. This motif is completed by the bee, one of the symbols of an Original Forge de Laguiole knife.
Important when opening and closing the knife: you need to accompany the blade when opening and closing it. You mustn't let the blade "snap", as it could be damaged by speed.
A beautiful collection of folding knives awaits you on Knifeleader!
