The Forge de Laguiole folding knife in juniper is an exceptional piece!
Laguiole knives are true knives of quality and tradition. Laguiole is a true expertise, supported by passionate professionals, 100% French. At a time when global competition in cutlery is fierce, the Forge de Laguiole company has chosen to develop and produce its knife ranges in the heart of Aveyron.
Laguiole knives are synonymous with a UNESCO-recognized heritage, and Aveyron's cutlery-making tradition is firmly rooted in the region's cutlery-making landscape. In 2007, the company was awarded the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (Living Heritage Company) label for its skilled craftsmen, who apply ancestral and regional production techniques to produce unique objects.
The blade is made of French T12 semi-stainless steel, a hot-rolled steel that is an alternative between carbon steel and all-stainless steel thanks to its balance of carbon and chromium. This steel is very fine-grained, which gives it several advantages: excellent cutting quality, long-lasting blade edge, good resistance to oxidation, easy sharpening and polishing. The steel's hardness reaches 54/56 HRC on the Rockwell scale, making it easy to sharpen. The blade is satin-finished for a highly appreciable finish.
The handle is made of juniper wood, a robust species whose color varies from brown to yellow. The handle is varnished for perfect elegance and wear resistance. The handle is guilloche-engraved with wavy lines and strokes that intertwine on the spring of the folding knife. At its tip is the bee, one of the symbols of an Original Forge de Laguiole knife.
Two steel bolsters complete the piece, at either end of the handle. The first joins the blade to the handle, while the second, located at the end of the handle, provides additional protection for the knife.
As most of the materials used in the manufacture of Laguiole knives are of natural origin, their appearance (color, veining, grain) is likely to vary from one piece to another.
Important when opening and closing the knife: you must accompany the blade when opening and closing it. Don't let the blade "snap", as it could be damaged by speed.
