Naniwa sharpening stones are internationally acclaimed for their abrasive capacity and longevity. They come in a multitude of grits, starting with a very thick grit (used to recreate the edge of a damaged blade) and ending with a fine grit ideal for polishing. The naniwa stone ranges are equally varied: it's up to you to choose the one that suits you best!
The Naniwa Multi Stone range is made up of double-grit stones. It's practical because you get two finishes with just one stone. These stones are perfect if you're just starting to sharpen: they're easy to use, and their quality/price ratio is extremely advantageous.
Its 220 grit (green face) is very thick. This gives it very high abrasive power, making it easy to remove material from your blades. This is why it should be used on very damaged blades, which need to be resharpened. This grain will "clean" the steel.
The 1000 grit (red face) is the median grit. If used regularly, it maintains a constant level of wear on the blade. It's the most widely used grit in the sharpening world! It can be used as a finishing grit on low HRC knives, as well as a starter grit for high HRC knives (but whose cutting edge is not too blunt either).
The naniwa Multi Stone is a water stone. It must therefore be immersed in water before use. Allow about ten minutes for this.
Its abrasive particles are effective, making it a pleasure to use. The naniwa multi stone wears slowly, which, combined with its thickness, means you can keep it for years.
Once you've finished using it, you can brush it clean of the waste accumulated from steel passages, then leave it to dry completely before storing it in a dry place. To do this, leave it in the open air, and don't put it near a heat source (it dries too quickly and may crack).
To guarantee safe use and a stable stone, you can use the dedicated Naniwa stand.
