The Naniwa sharpening guide is a very practical accessory for using a sharpening stone. Its purpose is to enable you to maintain an even angle when sharpening your blades.
The sharpening guide is clipped onto the top of your blade, about halfway along its length. We advise you to place a thin sheet of paper towel between the blade and the guide, to avoid any scratches.
Once the guide is clipped in place, you can use your whetstone. Use the usual back-and-forth movements to slide the blade over the surface of the stone, so that the stone works. The guide will raise the blade and keep it in the same position throughout the maneuver. The resulting sharpening is more precise and less tedious.
The white ceramic part slides over the blade. The fact that it's made of ceramic means that the guide will last over time, as ceramic is a hard material that resists mechanical stress.
This naniwa guide is recommended for blades between 3 and 4cm wide. Indeed, on a blade that is too small (such as a pocket knife or fillet knife), the guide will raise the steel too much and the angle will not be right. The wider the blade, the smaller the angle of use.
